Shakespeare's is worth the visit. The old smokiest-pool-hall-in-town has moved to a new location in a converted warehouse on Walnut. They've brought along the old bar and the chill pool-hall atmosphere, and left the smoke behind. The building, quiet on the night we visited, is roomy and well-lit. A grand piano and drum kit offered the promise of live music on some evenings. The leather-pocketed pool tables are plentiful, well-felted, and inexpensive, and there are about eighty racks of cues for you to choose from. Each table has a pair of comfortably sequestered leather seats for when you're waiting to shoot. The liquor selection is surprisingly extensive, especially in the whiskey category. Zach, behind the bar, is friendly and low-key, and he has a heavy hand with the liquor. We had an amiable chat with him and our server, Allison, about Shakespeare's and other local bars. The location--a block or two north of Broadway on Walnut, a little out of the Ballpark/LoDo neighborhood and into the uncharted wildnerness between Coors Field and the Walnut room--is not exactly prime, but Shakespeare's would make a good stop on the way from the LoDo bars to a show at Larimer Lounge or a quiet evening at the Meadowlark. Recommended.

Very strange. Last time I was in there it was loaded with burning man, ren fest, carni types. I didn't know they liked to play pool that much! The old place was better and they could REALLY use something to do other than pool. I know I know, I'm always saying places need pinball machines but there is so much damb room, lining up 6 or 7 machines on one of the walls would drag a whole group of peeps that wouldnt normally hang out in this place.
