One of the best sports bars in Boulder. GREAT burgers, giant TV's, rooftop patio, separate downstairs with pool and other bar games

Unfortunately, I am not a fan of the Lazy Dog. They do have some great sports viewing and it is definitely one of the few places in downtown Boulder to watch a game. However, I have been there many times over the years and I have received consistently mediocre food - even for a sports bar - and barely adequate service from a staff that seems to go about their motions at best and at worst not to care at all.
Ordinarily, these characteristics wouldn't doom a dive bar and might even be sort of endearing, but The Lazy Dog has no particular character to allow it to recover from it's shortcomings. The room is cavernous and bright and exists primarily to showcase TVs viewable from every angle. A few sports memorabilia artifacts adorn the rafters but that's about it for decor. The layout around the bar area is crowded and isn't very comfortable for just hanging out. You sort of have to get a table.
Walking into the Lazy Dog I have never felt the desire to take it to the level where you need to worry that the staff might ask you to leave - a must for any good dive bar. It just doesn't do enough to inspire the dark side.
So go if you want to see a big game with friends or to hang out on the upstairs patio in the summertime but there are better options a short walk away.
Did I mention they have good burgs?
Kansas City Burger - Bacon, Lazy Dog's BBQ, Cheddar, etc. - my personal favorite
Maui Burger (w/ pineapples) is also very good (Jay - try this)
