Ginn Mill offers a great space, a great staff, and a great sawed-in-half Model T. Located in the resurgent 20th Street block of Larimer along with Code 3 and Scruffy Murphy's, Ginn Mill is a neon-free antidote to Lodo's bar scene.
The decor is Prohibition-era chic--the main bar boasts an original tin ceiling and the aforementioned semi-vehicle, along with a number of vintage photos. The bar's long back room has a fantastic original mural. It's a comfortable space, although it can feel a bit large when not many people are there. Ginn Mill hosts Sunday night trivia, karaoke on Tuesdays, and a bunch of other weekly and one-off events. It's clear that Bob, the managing partner, is very interested in keeping the place entertaining while making it a comfortable destination for your evening libations. The taps offer a solid selection of draft beers, with quite a few more in bottles and cans. Drinks are very slightly on the expensive side compared with other local establishments, but not so much that you'll probably notice when you get your tab back at the end of the night. If you sit at the bar, you'll probably get sucked into playing dice with the bartender and the other patrons for shots, or their own brand of beer pong played on a pair of whiskey barrels (and called, rather unexpectedly, "barrel pong").Think you can write a better description? Put it in the comments below.

I thought it was great. Guys are not playing grab ass all night and the staff is great. I will defiantly go back.
Seriously, how many of you listed above were rejected by someone that works there? There is way to much angst possessing your emotions. The nudie photo hunt/trivia game is sweet and the employees are chill so drink your drink and lock it up.
Okay, Applebees it's not but calling this place "Amazing" is overselling it just a bit. There's really nothing original about it, maybe for Denver but come on, it's a fairly beat-to-death decor no? It feels way too wide-open and cold to me - but serving food might justify the cavernous space.
It's not bad. But it's nothing to get all excited about either.
Mea culpa!
I went back to Ginn Mill last night and it was a completely different feel. The lights were lower, there's a new (to me) mural in the back room, and all in all the atmosphere was MUCH improved over what I saw (or thought I saw) the first time.
I got to talk with Bob and Zach behind the bar a little bit, and admitted that I was, in fact, the Applebee's review guy. And they didn't kick me out on my ass immediately, which in itself is enough of a reason to revise my review.
The crowd when I got there seemed to be pretty chill--not a CPA or sales guy in sight.
This place suffers from attracting a crowd that seems primarily composed of douchebags. It's hard to tell if the frat boy/drunk loud girl contingent are actively being courted (see Ginger's retarded rambling above) or if they just happened to wander out of LoDo's and the Sports Column for some slumming a few blocks north. Either way, this place feels like just another lodo watering hole for Denver's equivalent of the B&T crowd. Ooh, yet another place to hear Jimmy Buffett songs sung aloud! Glad we have one more bar for just graduated CPAs and sales guys to get their slightly overweight dates drunk enough to let them stick it in!
To be fair, they do have a nice tin ceiling. Too bad about the trash they tend to collect underneath it.
like the reviewer above said, there is room for improvement, but 1990s Applebees seems a bit harsh. according to our server they're going to be opening a kitchen soon, so they'll have food, but until then, they were cool about us getting pizza from up the street and bringing it back to eat while we watched the Rockies. staff was pretty friendly. decent place to hang out, hopefully they'll make a few adjustments and improve things over time. not a bad place to hang out though.
This place is awesome! The bartenteders are super hot and really friendly...the owners are dreamy...the drinks flow on the cheap and are poured with a heavy hand...and the decor is knock out original... Try finding an original tin stamped ceiling at an Applebees you freakin retarded reviewer. I just found my new watering hole in Downtown Denver... Lil place called the Ginn Mill... See y'all there...
Are you kidding??? Comparing this bar to an Applebee’s is just ridiculous. This place is amazing. For having only been open for 3 weeks they have done nothing less than impress. The staff is friendly the music is great and the décor is a nice change of pace. Now granted if you’re in your early 20’s, out for the loudest, wildest, trendiest, get hammered and make a few bad decisions clubs then this is probably not the place for you. Personally I avoid those bars at all costs. But if you are looking to experience something new and expect a great time then I suggest you stop in and check it out and form your own opinion.
WHOA, WHOA, WHOA.....1990s Applebees? That is definitely not the feel I get when I walk into The Ginn Mill. If there were an Applebees that looked like that, I would have probably spent more time there instead of my local pub. One of the reasons I love this bar is because it doesn't at all remind me of some trendy chain you can find on every street corner. Granted there are areas for improvement, but the bar hasn't even officially opened yet. Give it some time. I think the style alone and the wonderful staff make up for the minor kinks that still need to be worked out. I've been there several times and will continue to go because of it's unique decor and great atmosphere. Love the people! Love this bar!
room for improvement...certainly - they just opened...a bit too large of a seating area...agreed....anything close to Applebees however, I have to question the reviewer's intoxication level while visiting the gin mill?! It seems like most of the setting is actually original from the 1920s, I am sure the truck is and the ceiling is probably older. I have been to this place a few times now would go again. The drinks are not expensive and the music is good. The decor is cool and more unique (never seen a ceiling like the one they have anywhere) than most anywhere I have been to in Denver and the staff is fun. Recommended!
A one-off bar that still feels like a chain, the Ginn Mill is a recent addition to the Ballpark neighborhood. The decor is shooting for Prohibition-era speakeasy--black-and-white photos along one brick wall, a pressed-tin cathedral ceiling, and half a Model T over the bar. An open front and back and dual patios make the bar feel very open and work at cross-purposes with the speakeasy feel. The overall effect is less 1920s Chicago and more 1990s Applebees. Still, the Ginn Mill offers a reasonable selection of draft and bottled beers, a friendly staff, and an almost embarrassingly large seating area--the property, although narrow, spans a short block.
Not great, but there's some potential there.
