ginsberg, kerouac and cassidy used to hang out here. They have a nice old piano player inside and a massive patio (covered in cold weather) around the back. Happy hour is two for one wells, wine and domestic (from 4-6 and from 11-cl). During the summer they hold a pig roast on fridays where they'll give you a free plate of pulled pork and some chicken wings for free. A must for any fan of barbque. The staff is friendly, the owners Russian and the clientele older (late twenties to seventies) and very mellow. Pretty good pizza also (the vegetable one anyway).

Talk about old-denver appeal. Back in the college days, a trust-funder friend of mine loved this place and was always dragging the crew there. I never had any money and couldn't justify 4 DOLLARS! for a drink. But I loved the joint and wished I could. So now, that the cake is flowing, I try to stop in whenever in the neighborhood. When you're at Charlies, you feel like you're not in denver anymore. It has none of the low-brow dumbed down vibe that so many places in the city have. It's an older yet very cool and seemingly well-educated crowd. I dig it the most.
